Emelia Hiltner is a handmaker whose purpose is to lead joy into people's lives through one-of-a-kind functional ceramic objects. She pursued art at New York University, where she had the great fortune to study with Dr. Judith Schwartz, who pushed her to uncover the conceptual and sculptural potential of pottery. After receiving her BFA, Emelia moved to Tennessee for post-bacc studies at the Appalachian Center for Craft, where, under the tutelage of Vince Pitelka, she was encouraged to focus on form and function. Emelia spent the subsequent decade jumping from residencies and work-studies to internships and apprenticeships. At each place, her generous and committed mentors and communities expanded her technique and creative spirit. "In my studio, everything in there — every gesture I make — can be traced to knowledge gifted to me by others." emeliahiltner.com
